Terms & Conditions

  1. These conditions apply whether a contract has been made verbally or in writing. The hirer acts on behalf of all the passengers travelling in the vehicle(s). The hirer is responsible for the actions and decisions of all passengers.
  2. Quotations are given on the basis of the most practical route. The route will be chosen at the discretion of Hansom Carriages Ltd. or the chauffeur on the day unless it has been particularly specified by the hirer in which case it will be clearly shown on the confirmation. All quotations are given subject to Hansom Carriages Ltd. having available a suitable vehicle at the time the hirer accepts the quotation. Quotations are valid for 28 days unless otherwise notified.
  3. The hirer cannot assume use of the vehicle between outward and return journeys, nor to remain at the destination for the hirer's use unless this has been agreed in advance with Hansom Carriages Ltd.
  4. Hansom Carriages Ltd. reserves the right to levy additional charges for mileage, car parking charges or time other than that agreed in accordance with the Hansom Carriages Ltd's pricing structure. The chauffeur will drive at safe speeds in accordance with road conditions, traffic and national speed limits.
  5. The hirer is responsible for any damage caused to the interior and/or exterior of a vehicle by any passenger for the duration of the hire and will be charged accordingly for any repair or valeting required to restore a vehicle to working order.
  6. Hansom Carriages Ltd. will specify the legal seating capacity of the vehicle. The hirer must not load the vehicle beyond this capacity. Chauffeurs will not carry any extra passengers over the seating capacity of the vehicle.
  7. No animals (except guide or hearing dogs notified in advance) may be carried without prior written agreement from Hansom Carriages Ltd.
  8. Written confirmation by Hansom Carriages Ltd. is the only basis for the acceptance of a hiring or for subsequent alteration to its terms.
  9. Payment:
    1. A non refundable deposit of 20% of the hire fee (minimum £50) is payable on booking the vehicle with the balance due 7 days before the date of the hire (10 days for cheques) unless Hansom Carriages Ltd. has agreed in writing to vary this condition. Any deposit must be paid by the date stated and payment in full must be made prior to the hire unless otherwise agreed by Hansom Carriages Ltd.
    2. The charge on your credit card statement will be shown as Hansom Carriages.
    3. All prices are exclusive of VAT which will be charged in accordance with the rates specified by HMRC and as varied by them from time to time.
    4. For account customers Hansom Carriages Ltd. reserves the right to add 2% compound interest per calendar month, beyond the date by which payment should have been made.
  10. If the hirer wishes to cancel any arrangement, the following scale of charges will apply in relation to the total hire charge:

    1. If the hirer or other passenger(s) do not appear at the time and place designated as the pick-up point, all monies paid to Hansom Carriages Ltd. will be non-refundable.
    2. Cancellation due to inclement weather conditions will be charged as above.
  11. Cancellation by Hansom Carriages Ltd. In the event of any emergency, riot, civil commotion, strike, lockout, stoppage or restraint of labour or the happening of any event over which Hansom Carriages Ltd. has no control (including adverse weather and road conditions) or in the event of the hirer taking any action to vary agreed conditions unilaterally, Hansom Carriages Ltd. may return all money paid and without further or other liability, cancel the contract.
  12. Vehicle to be provided:
    1. Hansom Carriages Ltd. reserves the right to provide a change to the contracted vehicle or chauffeur at any time if necessary at no additional charge to the hirer.
    2. Hansom Carriages Ltd. reserves the right to substitute other vehicles of similar quality to those specified (including those of other operators) for all or part of the hiring.
  13. Hansom Carriages Ltd. gives advice on journey time in good faith and will use all reasonable endeavour to ensure vehicles arrive on time. However, as a result of breakdown, traffic congestion, or other events beyond reasonable control, journeys may take longer than predicted and Hansom Carriages Ltd. will not be liable for any loss suffered by the hirer as a result.
  14. Passenger Property:
    1. All vehicles hired by Hansom Carriages Ltd. are fully insured for passenger and third party claims and the hirer accepts that the chauffeur shall be the sole judge as to whether and to what extent passengers' property is carried.
    2. Hansom Carriages Ltd. accepts any personal property of the hirer and their passengers on the understanding that it will take all reasonable steps to avoid loss or damage but shall not be responsible or liable for any loss/damage to such property. Hansom Carriages Ltd. will not accept liability for any damage or loss of any property left in a vehicle after completion of the hiring.
    3. Hansom Carriages Ltd. will keep a lost property book at their offices and any articles of property recovered from a vehicle will be held at those offices for three months and may be collected from there.
  15. The chauffeur is responsible for the safety of the vehicle at all times and may remove any passenger whose behaviour prejudices safety. Hansom Carriages Ltd. and its chauffeurs have the right to refuse to carry any passenger who is thought to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs and whose behaviour poses a threat either to the chauffeur, the vehicle or any other passenger(s).
  16. In the event of a complaint, the hirer should seek a solution at the time by asking for assistance from the chauffeur or from Hansom Carriages Ltd. If this has not provided a satisfactory remedy, complaints should be submitted in writing within 14 days of the termination of the hire.
  17. No bill, poster or notice is to be displayed on any vehicle without the consent of Hansom Carriages Ltd.
  18. No refreshments or alcoholic drinks may be consumed in the vehicle without the prior written consent from Hansom Carriages Ltd.
  19. Hansom Carriages Ltd. maintains a strict no-smoking policy in all its vehicles at all times.
